Stephen Elop says he’s ready for change at Microsoft

All eyes are on Stephen Elop. Just hours ago, he introduced Nokia’s first Windows tablet; he’s also overseeing his division’s integration into Microsoft; and Redmond is even considering him as its next CEO. During our interview today, Elop understandably couldn’t comment on the prospect of taking Steve Ballmer’s place, but he did say he’s ready to take up the challenge of bringing the two giants together, no matter what.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of driving that change within the company in whatever capacity,” Elop said.

Eight games making the multiplatform leap to Windows Phone

Several multiplatform games are set to enter the Windows Phone mobile ecosystem, according to a post today on the Windows Phone Blog.

The games, which were announced at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi and many of which are available for Android and iOS, include:

• Asphalt 8: Airborne (pictured above)


• Danger Dash


• FIFA 14


• My Talking Tom


• Rabbids Big Bang


• Rail Rush


• Rayman Fiesta Run


• Temple Run 2

This morning, Nokia surprisingly released their new Glance Background app in Beta form. It’s shocking because for all the things we knew about upcoming changes to Glance (e.g. color choices, notifications) not one single leak pointed to this ability.

The app simply lets you add a background to your Glance screen and while in theory it’s simple, in reality it’s one of the coolest things we’ve seen.

New data shows entry level Windows Phones doing very well, while the Lumia 1020 remains niche; Nokia near 90% of the Windows Phone market

AdDuplex have released Windows Phone ecosystem data for the month of September. The company powers the ads that are found in Windows Phone apps worldwide and have become a solid metric for platform statistics.

This month’s data continues a few trends, including steady growth of Nokia’s dominance and the rise of low-cost Lumias. However, the high-end market, including the Lumia 1020, have so far not sold nearly as much. Expectation due to niche device or market failure?
