Man creates machine to hunt, capture, clone shiny Pokemon autonomously

Pokémon X and Y modding enthusiast who goes by the moniker dekuNukem has further developed his hands-free shiny Pokémon finder so the machine now hunts, breeds, clones and releases shiny Pokémon without the need for human input.

Back in November, the modder posted a video of a set-up he'd created that automates the process of finding shiny Pokémon. After the shiny Pokémon were found, player intervention was required to catch them.

In the latest build of dekuNukem's "Poké-O-Matic," the machine not only finds the shiny Pokémon, it will also catch them for the player, breed then, name them where a nickname is necessary and clone them.

Grand Theft Auto 5 parody takes you to the barbershop

Australian comedy duo Max and Sam created a live-action Grand Theft Auto 5 parody that highlights a few of the game's more humors quirks.

Although the video's star is ready to begin a mission, his hair isn't quite up to snuff. Watch above as he takes a trip the barbershop — with some alarming side encounters.

Astronomers shoot first in 'Star Wars'-style timelapse

This three-minute timelapse video was shot at the summit of Mauna Kea, the 13,803-foot (4.2km) volcano in Haiwaii. Due to its position, the peak is ideal for space observation. It's currently home to the Manua Kea Observatories, which are used for scientific research across the electromagnetic spectrum, and will soon play host to the world's largest optical telescope.

In addition to aiding in the scientific quest for knowledge — and being a dead ringer for Star Wars' Ion Cannons — the observatories also make a fantastic subject for a timelapse. Grand Theft Auto 5's shocking world of murder, theft and golf is a much more soothing place when it's narrated by Morgan Freeman — or in this case, Morgan Freeman impersonator Jason Stephens.

Machinima shared a video of Stephens' spot on impression via its YouTube channel. The video follows one of Grand Theft Auto 5's three anti-heroes, Franklin, as he visits with a paid lady friend, takes an unintentional swim and picks up a new vehicle. Visual effects studio stuns with three minute clip of sci-fi mech film

An epic sci-fi movie featuring large-scale mech battles is an ambitious project for a small visual effects studio to take up on its free time. But that's precisely what director J.J. Palomo and his team from Barcelona's Big Lazy Robot have done with "Keloid." Rather than output a full-length feature at direct-to-TV quality, the team spent over two years putting together this three minute "spec film." It's essentially a trailer for a movie that doesn't exist, but it's an impressive showing. As you might expect, the story isn't clear — it seems a divided humanity comes together to fight off their own AI creations — but what matters at this point is the vision. A new video from EA DICE shows plenty of gameplay footage of the Battlefield 4 beta running on Xbox 360.

The gameplay footage is entirely from the "Siege of Shanghai" level, which was demoed at E3 back in June. There's plenty of the run-and-gun action that people would expect from a video like this, mixed in with parachutes and Battlefield staples like vehicular combat.

Battlefield 4 hits current-gen platforms on Oct. 29 and will be a launch title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Study attempts to identify risks for 'problematic' video game usage

Research from the University of Missouri published recently in the journal Frontiers in Psychology attempted to measure the individual habits and preferences found in "problematic" video game usage in adults.

Researchers distributed literature on message boards aimed at "game enthusiasts" and college undergraduates, with an aim to measure "individual habits and preferences in video game use." Their analysis identified nine factors — story, violent catharsis, violent reward, social interaction, escapism, loss-sensitivity, customization, grinding and autonomy — that were further analyzed to "reliably discriminate between inter-individual game preferences."

League of Legends Championship Series matches recreated in Legos

In case regular League of Legends Championship matches weren't interesting enough, YouTube user danmovproduction created Lego renditions of several plays.

The video includes recreated scenes from the North American League Championship Series, the Summer Split and more. You can check out the video above to see Lego versions of match hosts, champions and levels.

Mechwarrior Online launches with a new robot-combat trailer

A new launch trailer celebrates the full release of Mechwarrior Online.

The trailer shows the series' iconic battle robots like the Mad Cat and Atlas rushing into combat with missiles, lasers and cannons blazing. While there is also some in-cockpit footage and a bit that shows off the game's store and customization options, the vast majority of the video focuses on robots blowing each other up.
